This is real good movie to watch over and over again, though, seeing it the 1st time is the best. The next day, I just had to go out and find it on video to add it to my own video library and then I watched it again later that night and one more time the next night. I was also trying to do something else at the time, but it was so good that I could only continue what I was doing during commercial breaks. When this movie aired on the Wonderful World of Disney this past Sunday night (June 11, 2000) I watched it for the first time to preview it.

In fact, I don't know why I let this movie go for so long before getting it myself and watching it because it is very good - a fantastic adventure and enough suspense to keep you watching it all the way through (at least the 1st time). If I could just say a few words about this movie they would be, 'A Must Buy!'. Although the legend of Bear Mountain is the prime motivator of several incidents, it's Jody's relationship to Ray, her mother, Beth, and the rest of the townspeople that provides the focus of the movie. The movie continues digging deeper into Jody's life through Beth's eyes. On the first day of summer, Jody and Beth find the cave where the gold supposedly is hidden.

Jody has a map, and she has a 'condo' in the mountain near the entrance to a series of caves & tunnels leading to the supposed gold. Jody has a dream, though, a dream of finding lost gold in Bear Mountain, left there by a legendary woman named Molly Morgan. Somehow, Beth sees that Jody isn't all that bad 'she just needs a friend.' Beth sticks by her, even when Jody is blamed for almost killing Beth.

The girl, Jody, is shunned by her peers as a 'bad kid.' As the film progresses, we see Jody as the apparent victim of a bad relationship between her own widowed mother and Ray, a man who, like everybody else, grew up in the town. Soon she meets up with two boys fighting. Slowly, however, she makes friends, despite the lack of a nearby mall or anything else to do. Kate meets up with several old friends, but Beth has none. After her dad's death, Beth Easton and her mother, Kate, move to the house left to the family by a deceased aunt. Susie would later appear during their 'The 12 Screams of Christmas' event.Moving from the big city (LA) to a backwater town is always difficult, but especially for the one doing the moving. Beth didn't know he had released a video and gets very excited. On Christmas Day, Beth's present from Jody is a videotape of The Krusher's wrestling. She throws the Susie Snowflake tape onto the fire and her family returns to normal.

Beth is about to play it again when she sees that The Krusher is still on TV reminding her who she really is. She repeats this to Jody, who hands over the tape.

Jody has found a mysterious new shop in town called The Christmas Shoppe, and bought a video tape of her favorite holiday special, 'A Holly Jolly Holiday', about a person called Susie Snowflake who spreads cheer to everyone at Christmas.
